We realize that one of the larger expenses of any travel
to Acapulco is the airfare! Here are some great ideas for lower fares.
In the information below, we will try to let you know
about excellent Internet based airfare opportunities, as well as
dependable travel agencies that have assisted us with "rock
bottom" fares.
Unfortunately,
finding inexpensive tickets usually takes
some work. However, with a little patience and some persistence, we
have often found fares that are hundreds of dollars below the airline's lowest
published fares!
All of the recommendations on this page
with logos are from the
personal experiences of Las Palmas staff. We will add to this page
each time we become aware of new opportunities.
In the future we
may add a form for you to contribute your cost saving ideas. Check

Travel Recommendations |
CityNet.com
is the Internet's number one source for online travel planning
and wholesale flight-booking. Find special deals, check airfares, purchase
airline tickets, make hotel and car reservations and find destination information.
BestFares.com
is one of our favorite web sites for finding
discount airfares. The site also offers discounts on hotels,
cruises, restaurants and other travel bargains. A membership fee of
$59.95 is required to purchase tickets. However, this fee not only
provides full access to the travel discounts on the Bestfares.com web site, but also a
year's subscription to the Tom Parsons' Bestfares.com magazine, full of
great travel deals!
Bestfares
has excellent Summer 2000 fares to ACA
from many U.S. cities!!
Priceline.com
is also a favorite web site for locating
that elusive cheap ticket. This unusual web site actually lets
you name your price for the ticket you want. No membership is
required, however, you are required enter specific dates of travel and
then enter your credit card number. When you submit your bid,
Priceline.com checks all available air carriers providing service to your
destination and asks them to accept your price. If they do, you are
immediately notified that you have bought your ticket!
Amazingly, this approach can save a lot of money!
The airlines don't want to fly empty airplanes and your reasonable offer
may be accepted - well below their published rates! However, a
note of caution is important when using this service. Be sure to do
your homework, before placing your bid on Priceline.com. We're sure that no
one has ever been stopped from bidding too much for a ticket! We
suggest you use the following procedure:
-
Contact all of the air carriers going to Acapulco
and ask for their lowest published fares on the dates you will be
traveling.
-
Check all of the other airfare discount
opportunities that you know of and find all of the fares available that
are under the airlines "lowest published fare".
-
Finally choose a fare that is much lower than
anything you've found. Then, using that price, place your first bid
on Priceline.com. You will be notified in about one hour if your
price has been excepted. If it hasn't, then raise your bid $25 or $50
and try again! Continue this process until you get your ticket, or
until it makes more sense to buy your discounted ticket somewhere else.
-
SAVE $25 ON AN
AIRLINE TICKET AT PRICELINE.COM. Get $25 per ticket added to the price
you name on airline tickets at Priceline.com. As a Smarter
Living member, Priceline will add $25 per ticket for free (for up to 8
tickets) to your offer. Each member can use this offer only once. Go

Globion Travel
has been a real help in finding
"consolidator tickets". These tickets, bought in bulk and
re-sold to the general public, can offer tremendous savings and some are
available at the "last minute"! Check out their web site
or call them at 877-456-2466. Ask for "Mac"! She's knowledgeable
and cares about her clients!

Travel Discount Tips

-
Do your homework! Comparison shop! Negotiate!
Just asking an airline for their lowest fare or calling one travel agent
will just about guarantee you a higher fare!
.
-
If possible, consider changing the dates and times you
will be flying. This can make a large difference in the price of your
ticket!
.
-
If you're age 62 or over, ask about fares for
"Seniors".
.
-
If you're a college student, ask about fares for students.
.
-
If you are traveling with a companion, look for
"companion fares", often as much as 50% off your second ticket!
America West is currently offering 50% savings for your companion, on
tickets priced over $400 (through February 17, 2000).
.
-
Ask your travel agent about "consolidator
tickets". These tickets, bought in bulk and re-sold to the
general public, can offer tremendous savings! However, be careful
here. There are some consolidators who are less than honest.
We suggest you:
-
Check the consolidator's reputation.
-
Pay by credit card, and
-
Re-confirm your reservation with the airline, 24 hours
after you purchase you ticket.
-
If you fly often, join the "frequent flyer"
membership for each airline you fly. Continental's OnePass
membership is a
great way to get a free trip to Acapulco!
.
-
Look in coupon books, like Entertainment 99! You'll
find lots of airfare discounts. For example the Entertainment 99
coupon book currently has $5,100 in Continental Airline discounts!
One is for $125 off any ticket costing more than $500 from the US to their
Mexican destinations!
.
-
If you live in Southern California, especially in the San
Diego area, consider taking the tram to the border, a Tijuana taxi to the
airport and flying a Mexican airline to Acapulco. You'll save a
bundle over making that same trip starting from the San Diego airport just
15 miles north!

Carry-On
Baggage Alert! If you have to take your "business" with you,
like we do, be careful to check with your air carrier about
"carry-on" baggage limits and size restrictions. Recently
some carriers have begun to insist that you check "carry-on"
bags that are larger than their new measurement limits. If your
expensive laptop computer or camera equipment is packed in that same
rolling luggage that you've been placing in the overhead bin for years,
you may find yourself caught in a very frustrating moment in the
airport!
.
Currently,
United
Airlines, Amercian Airlines
and Southwest Airlines
are the carriers with the most strict carry-on
regulations. Each of these carriers actually require passengers
in some airports to place their carry-on bags in a
measurement template located at the x-ray machine. If the carry-on doesn't fit - and
you can be sure that your rolling overnight case won't - it is checked!
